4.2

4.2: Candidates design a range of assessments for students that promote their development as writers, are appropriate to the writing task, and are consistent with current research and theory. Candidates are able to respond to student writing in process and to finished texts in ways that engage students’ ideas and encourage their growth as writers over time.

 

Reflection:

 

My students saw a decent increase in the quality of their writing overall during the semester. Two of my favorite activities were both a little more informal, but allowed the students some creative freedom. The first is an activity which had the students create dialogue between two characters in Night. The second is an activity where students were given an ID card from the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and tasked with writing letters to their person over the course of the novel.
