5.1
5.1: Candidates plan and implement instruction based on ELA curricular requirements and standards, school and community contexts, and knowledge about students’ linguistic and cultural backgrounds.
Reflection:
Having a good understanding of cultural differences is a great place to start in meeting this standard. however, that in itself is not enough. Radford University has exposed me to a range of texts and information that I was able to use in order to base my instruction around the backgrounds of my students. Student teaching in the Appalachian region meant that I had to use connections to Appalachian values. My multicultural literature section shows more about cultural based instruction, as well as my year long plan centering on identity.
